Connect Status Update, January 11, 2008

Friday, January 11th, 2008, 7:21 pm

Over the last several weeks our team has been working to address the issues and errors in Connect that have caused problems for many of our users. We realize that these errors are often frustrating and confusing and in some cases, prevent you from adding new items, get in the way of interacting with your friends or hinder your ability to access your profiles and groups correctly. While our team is actively working to resolve as many of these issues as we can as quickly as possible, some fixes have taken a bit longer than originally anticipated. In some cases, these issues have to be fixed on an individual basis and for that reason, I urge you to contact Customer Support to report your error (include as much detail as possible) so that we have a record of this and can investigate further.

We do take each error and report seriously and want to be able to not only fix each outstanding item, but also add new features and implement user suggestions where possible.

To catch you up on where things stand, I wanted to provide a quick overview of items we're working on and issues that have recently been fixed. This is by no means an exhaustive list, but covers most major issues. If you are experiencing an error that is marked fixed, please let us know. In the same regard, if you know of something that is not listed, please leave a comment and let me know.

Fixed:
These items were recently fixed and should no longer be causing errors on the site.

User Profile Missing Content: Some users' profiles were missing blog entries, photos or other uploaded content. This was a system-wide issue and has been resolved.
Navigating to Group From Groups Page: Navigating to groups from your "Groups I Started" tab resulted in an error for some groups. This should now be resolved.
Uploading Avatar photo: Users attempting to upload a photo for their avatar received an error message. This issue is now fixed.
Blog archive list links: Some of the links to blog archives from a user's blog listing were taking users to a "page not found" error. This has been fixed.
Photo albums duplicated: Some users were seeing photo album titles duplicated in their dropdown menus. This should now be fixed.
Missing groups restored: Some groups had gone "missing" after the initial migration. These should now be restored.
Comments in comments module: After our initial launch,  member comments weren't being displayed on the main profile page. This should now be fixed for those users who have opted to display the comments module on their profile.
Added additional description fields for profile: We added more description fields to the profile shortly after launch.

Working to Resolve:
We are currently working on the fixes to these items and hope to have them resolved very soon.

Group blog submission error:  Some users are receiving a "2100" error message when they attempt to post a new blog entry to their group.
If you are experiencing an error like this, please contact Customer Support to provide us with your details.
Friend Request approval problems: Attempting to approve/reject more than one friend request at a time results in an error. Approving/rejecting a single request does not save that information in the system.
Search issues: Search results are returning inconsistent or inaccurate results.
Individual Account Access issues:  Some users are having access issues, including being prompted to use another member name, being logged in with the wrong member name on their account or being prompted with a message to update their password. If you are experiencing an error like this, please contact Customer Support to provide us with your details.
Group owner errors: Some groups are showing the wrong owner or moderators on the group page. In some cases group owners are unable to access the group edit options. If you are experiencing an error like this, please contact Customer Support to provide us with your details.
Removing photos from a group:  Group administrators are unable to remove photos from a group.
Featured Photos Don't Save to Profile: Saving feautred photos doesn't result in this content being saved in the system or displayed correctly on the profile page.
Member Avatars/Group Icons Displaying inconsistently:  Member avatars and group icons are currently displaying inconsistently, with some icons showing the default generic image instead of the actual icon.
Comment display skewed: For some blog comments, the comment text and comment options are overlapping.
Logging in: logging in from any page on Connect will currently take you back to the Connect home page. We are working to change this so that users are taken back to the page they were previously viewing.
Videos: Some videos are not showing up as approved; other video thumbnails are showing up as broken images.

In Development:
These are items that are being planned and we hope to offer them in a future release.

Skins: We hope to soon be able to add "skins" that you can choose from to jazz up your profile in a variety of colors and themes.
Widgets: Soon you should be able to add your favorite iVillage widgets to your profile.
Photo aggregation page: We're working on a photos landing page so you can see all of the great photos other iVillagers have added to their profile.
Privacy Settings: We are working to re-implement privacy settings in a future update.
Notifications/Alerts: We are working to re-implement notifications of updates and improve the ability to be notified/alerted of new activity or messages you receive.

We look forward to pushing more items into the "fixed" column and making continual improvements to the site. Your feedback is crucial in helping us do this and we value your participation and input.
