Why do women wear skirts and heels when it's snowing outside?
It's kind of funny watching women in heels picking their way through a snowy parking lot. Me--I'm wearing jeans and sneakers (the snow isn't deep enough to merit snow boots.)

Some women are really, REALLY concerned with "wearing the uniform" that conveys the level of status and prestige associated with their position.
Same for men. A company VP who really sets a lot of stock by being respected and recognized as a VIP isn't going to show up for work in jeans and a sweatshirt.
Other women wear heels and skirts because they think it makes them look more attractive, or, because they have no business-suitable slacks.
