On Ear Worms

Thursday, May 1st, 2008, 10:51 am

Normally you hear the term “ear worm” and you think of some horrid song that gets stuck in your head that you wish would just disappear. It’s driving you nuts and you just can’t understand why that stupid tune won’t go away.

But today I have a great ear worm. The station I listen to locally (Yes, I do not have satellite radio. I don’t want to pay for radio like I pay for TV.), 94.7 The Globe, played “You Can Call Me Al” by Paul Simon 2 days ago, and it’s been going on and on in my head. It’s a really light-hearted ditty about middle age and wondering where the time has gone with the last verse about discovering something new to rejoice in. It’s cute and sweet and comes from his CD Graceland which I used to have on tape.

Hmm, sounds like I need to CD shop again…

April 30 is National Walk @ Lunch Day!

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008, 12:52 pm

Blue Cross/Blue Shield is pushing this idea and I just love it! I've posted signs all over the office and I hope we have a nice crowd to go. If we do, I promise photos!

Training off to a good start

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008, 1:18 pm

Since the kick off on the 13th, I've walked about 8.4 miles. I did two 3-milers with Mom while in Georgia, and I walked 2.4 miles today. Need to put on more, since lunch at work is about the only time I get to walk (except some on weekends).

Moving Hazards?

Can someone please explain to me why some idiots turn on their emergency flashers when driving in heavy rain? I encountered at least 10 such dolts on my drive home from Georgia.Yell

Kicking-off

Monday, April 14th, 2008, 12:04 pm

A Breast Cancer 3Day kick off event was held yesterday at the New Balance store on Wisconsin Ave. in DC. It was great to get together with fellow participants (including my teammate Mark, who I haven’t seen in over 20 years!) You know, I missed this sort of event when I was training on my own for the 3Day in Cleveland. It’s not that training with Raghu & Andrew wasn’t a lot of fun, but it really does make a difference when you’re walking with a group of folks who are working towards the same goal and for many of the same reasons.

Yesterday I also set up the shop for our team’s Café Press store. If you’re interested in supporting our efforts and wearing some team gear sporting Andria’s GREAT logo (thanks Andria!), please visit www.cafepress.com/quicksteppers. A dollar from the sale of each item will go towards a donation for our team. (And no, none of us will profit from these sales. Café Press is the only entity which is making a profit.)
