I have a dilemma.
A friend of mine is running for Congress as a Republican candidate. My friend is a Christian Conservative and stands against quite a few of my ideals.
I like him, and I hope he does well in life, but am I evil for hoping that he doesn't get elected?

I would say 'no', because, frankly, there's got to be room for disagreement about issues without jeopardizing friendship.
I would tell the person, if they asked, that I was pleased that they felt interested enough in the civic life of our country to want to contribute, but that I couldn't in good conscience support their candidacy, disagreeing with their views as I did.
