Heat and Walking

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008, 11:58 am

Oooh. I'm being bad about training this week.

I should have walked on Monday but bagged it. Now it's 90 outside and humid.  I guess I'll wait 'til tomorrow night, when at least the temps will be cooling.

I have not been doing anything remotely resembling the training walks I "should" be doing.

When I leave the office each day at 6 pm, wearing a business suit, in a strange and faraway city, absolutely drained and brainfried from a day being Mister Perky, the last thing I can bring myself to do is go gear up and go find somewhere to walk ten miles. Wish I could, but honesty forces me to admit I haven't mustered up the resolve.

But the saving grace is that when I *am* in Vermont and do a ten mile hike, at the end of the day I feel rested and perky and fine, not tired at all, and that bodes well. (Okay, other than that one mountain climb on a 95 degree day where I think I was battling a bug. *That* was a bad day. But it's been the only one.) After this absurd July business travel odyssey is over I plan to do a lot more walking in August, when I'll be at home much of the time. And I plan to do 60 miles over Labor Day weekend.
