Communing with Wildlife
We've had birdfeeders and nut dishes out for years and enjoy seeing lots of birds and squirrels, and an occasional possum. Until recently, though, all the wildlife has been very skittish, scampering or flying off at the slightest hint of a door opening or a pooch sniffing. Yesterday, I slid open the family/room kitchen door and stepped out onto the patio and was maybe 4 feet away from a squirrel taking a peanut from the box. He stared at me and went about his business. So I ran and got my camera and caught him in the peanuts again, then up on the sprinkler control box, eating his goody. Down below, my Cairn terrier looked up at squirrely, as if to say -- one day, one day....
