    Share Your Stories, Part 1

    Wednesday, May 28th, 2008, 10:00 am

Just before Mother’s Day, I had the amazing opportunity to gather women from the Los Angeles area to share their stories about mothers and motherhood. It was an eclectic, engaged group of women, and all had so much to say about both being mothers and being daughters. Each attendee was a mom, or a daughter in her own right. What an inspiring, uplifting experience! We all came away with a great sense of unity and sisterhood.

We began by talking about the best gift we had been given from our children. Ruthanne Huvane, an LA mom and above left, visited her son’s school for ‘heros’ day. Each child was asked to draw their hero. “I got up to the board,” she said, “and [his] whole thing was about me….it blew me away.”

We were in tears as Andrea Stamford, above left, Design & Style Editor, C magazine, told her story about not feeling well one day. She received her favorite gift as her daughter placed her prized blanket gently next to her in bed one day.

Jane Buckingham, above right, President, Youth Intelligence, shared a story about how her son wanted desperately to treat his parents to brunch to celebrate their anniversary. Not understanding how far his $12.00 allowance would go, the restaurant was kind enough to make two checks – one for the $12.00 in her son’s wallet (plus tip!), and one that she and her husband paid – albeit discreetly.

Renee Jones, of UTA told us of her son’s awesome reaction to when she comes home from work. She said “it makes it all worth it…. no matter what may have happened at the office that day.”
