finding birth parents

Hi all,

I'm new to this chat room thing.  I hope I'm doing it right.  I welcome any advice you have.

 I have two adopted children.  My oldest just turned 18.  He is trying to decide whether to fill out the adoption registery papers to try and connect with his birth parents.  Has anyone been through that process?  I'm not sure how to advise him.
