Good evening. The ivillage connect page is taking so long that I forgot what I was gonna talk about.   My Friday.....I'm happy about that one.  Came home and it turned cloudy, but still nice.  I finished my audio book while transplanting some of my sweet peas and checking things out in the garden.   I still have loads to do and I hope it does not rain tomorrow.   

The Audio book I listened to was "Body Double" by Tess  Gerritsen.   Oh was a good story it was.

     Returning home from a trip to Paris, Boston medical examiner Maura Isles confronts a nightmarish scene.  Police cruisers line her street and slumped in a car at the end of Maura's driveway is a dead woman, her head bloodied by a gunshot wound.  Cops and neighbors gape at her as she approaches.  Only when Maura looks at the victim does she understand why everyone is so shocked by her arrival.  The dead woman looks exactly like Maura.  Within a week, the DNA lab delivers a stunning verdict:  the dead woman is Maura's twin.  A twin she never knew she had.  Detective Jane Rizzoli, now eight months pregnant, tackles the case as chief investigator.  But for Maura, this murder is far more personal and frightening.

After that, I came inside to a very messy house.  Son stays inside all day long,  Not doing anything, making bread sometimes, or cooking or sewing and just makes a big mess and he refuses to do anything else.  Won't clean up after himself, nor anything else.  I'm ready to tear my hair out.  Well, I guess I better go.  1900 hours is almost here , and I'm going to shut my computer down and read on a book I'm reading.  The latest Janet Evanovich book called Fearless Fourteen.

Bye bye for now.  Hope to get back here more often, but it is rather frustrating when this is so darn slow.

I am up and running.! Aiden's playgroup have agreed to do a fundraiser using Barefoot Books.  I have agreed to give them 15% of all sales - either direct sales or website sales.  (www.mybarefootbooks.com/HelenLacey

I've got a 'Launch Party' planned for 30 May at my house - with a few, select friends.

Then, on 15 June I'm away to the Vintage Bus Museum in Kelty to take part in a fete, which will be my first real 'event' - I am looking forward to it!

I finished reading I Will Fly Again, the Restavek, by Lili Dauphin.  I couldn't put it down.  It is based on Lili's life growing up in severe poverty in Haiti, whereas a 6 yr old child she was put to work as a child slave.  Lili used the tools now known as "the secret" in order to survive.  The book is heartwarming, funny, sad, and most of all, inspirational.  I can't wait until her next book comes out.

I just recently learned that Sir Arthur C. Clarke, the author of 2001: A Space Odyssey, has passed away. I am saddened by the fact that his death was only made known to the world (at least on ABC news' the 6 o’clock news today) with a brief notation about who he was. The announcement was more like a blurb. The producers act as if his death was not newsworthy; so nothing more than a concise comment was made about his passing. I guess, to the industry, writers are not really that important; even though the words that have inspired most of us to do great deeds, and to aspire to be more than who we are, has come from authors like him. Sir Arthur C. Clarke’s life was more than just a thirty-second clip. He was an inspiration to all whom he met and even those whom he never would. I never met him, personally, but his writing (and growing up in my age-his book-based movies-) has brought the twinkle to my eye that has enlightened the minds of all of those around me. I am who I am today (a writer!) because of novelists like him, and I only hope that I can reach the people that he has in his life, and that I can satisfy the want that possesses all of the avid readers in this world: The need to immerse themselves into the fantasy that is good literature ... if only to escape from the harrowing trials of their everyday existence. Thank you, Sir, for helping me to escape from the monotony that is the act of living itself ... and thank you for inspiring me to use my God-given gift to help others to find freedom from the binds that tie us to reality; and which we can only break by allowing our minds to roam free ... as we imagine a better and brighter future for tomorrow.

On Oct. 11, 2007, PBA Galleries, San Francisco, featured a first edition Book of Mormon. The plain 588-page text sold for $103,500. Printed in 1830, only about 500 are estimated to survive today. The copy sold included the rare leaf of testimonials at the end and had a solid provenance.
