At Sotheby’s, New York, on Sept. 14-16, 2004, the Johnny Cash/ June Carter Cash estate sale totaled $3,984,260.

Coat; stage-worn black fringed coat featured in the “Hurt” video; $27,600.

Cane; owl and snake; carved and painted; 35 inches high; $78,000. 

Bronze; The Outlaw; by Frederic Remington; exhibited in the Cash home; No. 21; Roman Bronze Works N.Y; 23 inches high; $84,000. 

Guitar; Martin D-42JC; black East Indian rosewood; the company’s first all black; limited edition guitar; 200 produced; each hand signed by Johnny and CEO CF Martin IV; $131,200.

A California man sold his collection of rare pennies for $10.7 million. He had 301 American pennies dating back to the 1700s. A 1794 large cent sold for $632,500. Most interesting coin story: a 1793 cent was minted for only two weeks because Congress thought Lady Liberty looked frightened.

On Oct. 11, 2007, PBA Galleries, San Francisco, featured a first edition Book of Mormon. The plain 588-page text sold for $103,500. Printed in 1830, only about 500 are estimated to survive today. The copy sold included the rare leaf of testimonials at the end and had a solid provenance.
